The industrial landscape of Pune, bathed in morning sunlight and casting a futuristic backdrop to the manufacTURING 4.0, perfectly complemented this year’s theme of the event. The event was opened by Vinay Nathan, CEO, Altizon System, reflected upon the fact that India is turning into hub for product development and manufacturing with the Make in India Program.
Keynote speaker Rajiv Jorapur, VP-MIS, Bajaj Auto, gave an inspirational and challenging address. He spoke about how the need for speed in execution and decision making is critical to manufacturing and how data driven insights are the way of the future. He also covered, in depth, the need for manufacturers to be agile and in-sync with their consumers and bringing out products that consumers want efficiently and seamlessly. Parallels were drawn between the manufacturing process and a live music concert where musicians can judge the mood of the audience and seamlessly deliver an outstanding experience. These were some of intriguing thoughts expressed in a storyboard mode.
The participants also had a great opportunity to learn from real-world experiences of an Industrial IOT solution deployment from Kanchan Pant, COO, Sharada Industries. Sharada Industries have IoT enabled their plant using Datonis™ and can drive operational efficiency (OEE) and real-time monitoring in their manufacturing process. She talked about challenges faced in connecting legacy machines that were decades old, bringing about a transformation in their process and lessons learnt in convincing the workforce that this was the way of the future. She provided metrics on how IoT in general and Datonis™ in particular improved the efficiency of her plant. This talk was of particular interest to the SME sector looking to leverage IIOT.
Leveraging IoT today – Cleantech, Smart Grid, Industrial
Taking up this theme, the stage gave way to panel discussion hosted by Maneesh Bhandari, Angel Investor & Social Entrepreneur. This lively panel discussion, featured three eminent panelists from different fields and covered the relevance of IoT across manufacturing, clean technologies, power, clean technologies and integration with IT systems.
Panelist Anil Paranjpe, CEO, Agaami Lightening Tech spoke about ‘how IIoT will enable personalization in manufacturing’ and give consumers exactly what they want. Shantanu Dixit, Director, Prayas Energy talked about the relevance of smart connected devices driving change in the power management, distribution and overall governance and policy sector. Abhay Ghaisas, Software Architect, BMC Software, extensively talked about the convergence of IoT with IT management systems, the challenges ahead and the way forward. The wide-ranging discussion covered a lot of ground in a lot of depth and had the audience engaged throughout
IoT – From Data to action
The final keynote ‘IoT Enablement: Mobilizing IoT capabilities – driving data to action’ was by Amol Mate, Director, UMAS. He spoke on the ‘How we can potentially maximize our returns on IoT investment’. He highlighted, how IoT will help the management with actionable data sets in real time for decision making, improving efficiency, providing visibility and aiding planning. He shared several field observations and provided a vision for enabling IIOT in manufacturing setups.
